70 million blogs worldwide One new blog per second 120,000 per day..and you?

According to the last published Technorati.com State Of The Blogosphere report, in 2007 there were over 70 million blogs worldwide. The report indicated that a new blog was created every 1.4 seconds, with over 120,000 new blogs created every day.

The reported blog count shows a rising trend from 2003 to 2007 and we can safely assume those figures have continued to rise in 2008.

Overwhelming as those figures may be, there is no escaping the fact that the Blogosphere is a highly competitive environment.

Of course, this is nothing new as competitiveness is synonymous with our mere presence online. In general, when you look for a job online or when you are bidding to buy an item on Ebay, you have literally hundreds of people with similar credentials as yours competing against you.

Similarly, when you blog, there are thousands of other bloggers in your blogging niche directly competing for readership against you.

How do you compete in such a crowded market? How do you grow your blog traffic and increase your readership count when there are literally thousands of other bloggers trying to do the same?

Those are the questions bloggers ask themselves on a daily basis!

It is encouraging to know that according to a recent report by the Pew Internet & American Life Project there are over 57 million adult blog readers in the United States alone. Obviously, the figure that represents a world-wide readership count is much higher.

So, at least we know that if we only grab a minute fraction of that readership, we are still talking about thousands of daily visitors.

This poses the ultimate bloggers' conundrum:
